Farmers market season is over...now what?

Farmers market season is coming to an end but there are still options available to continue to get local produce in the Greater Milwaukee Area. Here are a few ways to continue shopping locally throughout the winter and spring.

Fondy Farmers Market

First up, we have the Fondy Farmers Market. With over 40 vendors, you won’t leave empty handed. They offer many products including your favorite vegetables, fruits, plants, herbs, and flowers. If you’d like even more options, this century old market has additional items from farm fresh eggs to handmade apparel to plants!

The Fondy Farmers Market is running through November 20 taking place between 9 -2 for the rest of the season. Just two miles from downtown, it is located at 2200 W. Fond du Lac Avenue, Milwaukee, WI 53206.

Fondy's Winter Farmers Market

By November, you might already be sick of the cold, so the Milwaukee Winter Farmers Market is a chance to get seasonal vegetables, frozen favorites, meat products and other food items at an indoor location. Their mission is to give access to local produce throughout the year, regardless of the season.

For the 13th season of the Milwaukee Winter Farmers Market, they relocated to the heart of downtown at GATHER at Deer District, 333 W Juneau Avenue, Suite B, Milwaukee, WI 53203, from November 6, 2021, to April 9, 2022.

Food Co-operatives

Riverwest Co-op

Co-operatives (co-ops) are amazing resources for local produce year-round. Co-ops are community owned businesses owned by the people who utilize them. You can shop at co-ops without a membership, but being a member lets you be a part of the democratic process that is being an owner at a co-op. We are lucky to have a few in the Milwaukee area. One of the missions of co-ops is to feature organic, local, and fair-trade products to their community.

Located in Riverwest, the Riverwest Co-Op and Cafe is a natural food store and cafe whose mission is to provide local, organic, fresh produce to their community at a reasonable cost. The Riverwest Co-Op is located at 733 East Clarke Street, Milwaukee, WI 53212.

Outpost Natural Foods

With four locations in the Greater Milwaukee Area, Outpost is creating a community that is healthy, diverse, and sustainable. They gather a wider range of produce, dairy, and home staples while focusing on non-GMO, organic, and natural produced items. Their locations are in Mequon, Milwaukee, and Wauwatosa.

Milwaukee Farmers United

What about the times where the weather is bad, you don’t want to leave your house, or your schedule is too packed to go grocery shopping? That’s where Milwaukee Farmer’s United steps in. They provide a customizable online farmers market experience with 2 convenient drop-off days a week, all while giving you access to the same local produce and products delivered right to your doorstep.

Their online ordering platform makes shopping for local goods more accessible during the winter. There are no upfront costs, and you get to completely customize your box. They partner directly with farm owners and small, local businesses. These partnerships allow them to provide an expansive selection of vegetables, meat, dairy, CBD, bread, fruit, ready-to-eat food, and pantry items ranging from spices to pickles. With over 50 partners, you won’t be able to stop filling your cart with fresh local produce year-round. Milwaukee Farmers United provides access to multiple greens during the winter due to their partnerships with urban farmers like Milwaukee Microgreens, greenhouses, indoor urban farms, and aquaponic farms.
